THE
EVENTS UPDATE 2024 2025 2026 |
Yes, I am still performing. However, in a slightly different format from my early years. My last pre-booked full evening gig was in Thailand in 2023. I cannot even recall when my last scheduled gig was in Canada.
But there have been many booked gigs since I first took to the stage as part of a duo called B2 Blues in 1982, performing alongside Valdy and Colin James at the Regina Folk Festival. I later performed with a number of other bands, including a period spent as lead singer of a retro rock band which performed on the same bill as Hank Williams Jr at the Ness Creek Festival in Northern Saskatchewan, as well as a decade performing as jazz vocalist with a six piece band called Round Midnight, which brought me to stages at the Regina Jazz Festival, the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, and numerous performances in my home province. At the same time, I was evolving as a singer / songwriter and taking on many concerts as a solo artist. A deeper dive into my musical history is available on my Meet Bev page, and a detailed summary of my performance history is available below. However, I prefer in recent years to perform less frequently and more spontaneously, when a special occasion arises or the moment calls me. This works very well for my nomadic lifestyle, and opportunities to perform are never lacking. I have lightly referred to this as my ongoing Bev Zizzy World Tour ever since my husband and I retired and adopted this traveling lifestyle in 2013. I have since performed in Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, Peru, and Argentina, as well as in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, Canada. This photo was taken performing at a music venue on the island of Koh Phangan, Thailand, in March 2025, where I took part in an open mic session along with a number of very talented musicians, also passing through. I debuted my harmonica that evening, and have since never left home without my harps. I enjoy "breathing music" with my harmonicas so much that I featured the instrument on my 2025 single release I'm Already There , and will be including it on my 2026 release as well. |
Having said that, I have just taken on a scheduled gig in Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan, Canada, a small town located in the beautiful Qu'Appelle Valley where my husband and I spend our summer months.
The arts community is alive and well here, and I am delighted to be offering something and becoming involved in it, and honoured to be performing with the talented Brian Baggett, who plays a very unique stringed instrument known as a Chapman Stick. I will also be opening for the legendary Eileen Laverty on October 3 at the new Creative City Centre in Regina Canada. And then there is my Mantra Love Sangha, a small group of like minded individuals whom I have had the privilege to lead in song and humbly share some teachings of the sacred mantras from Eastern mystical traditions that I have come to love. These influences are all shaping my music evolution, and the new single releases I produce and share each year. My 2026 single is in production currently and will be released later this fall. And so the musical journey continues . . . |
Now I recall why I have not committed to full gigs for a while now - they call for a lot of time and energy, as I simply cannot restrain myself from reinventing everything I have ever done, revisiting each song, no matter how familiar, with a new energy. It’s like they are all getting reborn. It’s very time consuming, but it is also incredibly rewarding, as it is indeed a labour of love. I’m very excited to share these new musical babies in two upcoming gigs: September 26th in Fort Qu’Appelle, where Brian Baggett is my guest, opening for me, and I get to share them all. Then October 3rd in Regina, where I am the guest, opening for Eileen Laverty, offering a few favorites in a shorter set (even though one is never supposed to admit to favoring one baby over another:) Advance tickets are still available via e-transfer for the September 26th performance. The October 3rd performance is part of Sask Culture Days so there is no fee, but advanced registration is required. Tickets: https://creativecitycentre.wufoo.com/forms/q1m9agef0hsspml/ |
